Slumber Party and Princess Diana

We had an amazing sleep over on Friday February 26th where the girls did many different activities including making African Adinkra Cloth with stamps that the girls designed themselves. The cloth they stamped will be made into pants and a blouse.
On Saturday morning we took the girls to Atlanta for the Princess Diana exhibit at the Atlanta Civic Center and ate at Mary Mac's Tea Room after wards.
"The sewing club went to Mrs. Kincey's house. We fed the donkeys and goats. Then we went to the Princess Diana exhibit. Next we went to Mary Mac's Tea Room. They have really good food. I had mac and cheese, creamed corn, and ice sweet tea. It was served by Ms. Rita who was very nice." - T.L.

"On Saturday the sewing club went to the Princess Diana exhibit. We saw some of her toys, her ballet shoes, her wedding dress (it's train was 25 feet long!) and we saw some of her evening gowns. One fact I learned from the exhibit was that she was last seen in a black gown on her 36th birthday. After we left the exhibit we went to a restaurant called Mary Mac's. We had a great waitress, her name was Ms. Rita, she was great!" - S.H.

Thank you Ms. Ivey!!

Ms. Linda Ivey of Ivey Interiors
came to visit the girls and gave a lesson on making decorative pillows!!
Ms. Ivey has her own business making custom window treatments, fabric, bedding, blinds and more!
She talked to the girls about home interiors and how sewing can be used as a business or as a way to beautify your home.
The girls made pillows with Ms. Ivey and at the end of the lesson she gave the girls a gift pillow that she made for them!
We had an amazing time with Ms. Ivey and we are very thankful that she was able to donate her time to teach the girls as she has made a lasting impression on them for their future as young designers!

Thank you Ms. Ivey!!!

Post Holiday Review!

We are back from the Holiday Break and ready to sew!
The Clarke County School District Homeless Education Program loved the pillow cases that they delivered to the shelters around town!
1/4/2010: "To the Gaines Elementary School Sewing club,
I just wanted to thank all of you for the beautiful pillow cases you made for the homeless shelters. I delivered them on 12/18 and they loved them. You all are very special students for thinking of and doing something nice for other children. Keep up the great work!
Thank you "sew" much : )
-Katie Wilson"
(Homeless Education Program School Social Work Department)
Now we are getting started on pajamas that we are making for our pen pals in Africa! We are learning how to use patterns to put the fabric together in order to make the pants and the girls have decided that since it is very warm in Africa right now, they will make the pants for their pen pal's pajamas out of a cool cotton fabric. Very thoughtful!
