We are on our way, but we need your help!

The end-of-the-year trip for our 5th graders will be to the Martha Pullen School of Art and Fashion.  Please help us get there by contributing. It's easy.  Just click on the widget above. We appreciate your help. And don't forget to tell your friends. We'd appreciate their help, too.

Just so you know: last weekend we had another sleep-over.  Thirty six girls stayed all night at the school.  We had a picnic outside, played a basketball  tournament, had cheerleading competitions and finally fell asleep on the gym floor.  Great fun!  This was a fundraiser, so we were happy that so many girls wanted to come.  As usual, we donate 5% of our earnings to Relay for Life.  The remainder goes towards our trip to Savannah the see the Savannah College of Art and Design annual fashion show.

Sewing Club Runway Shut-in Nov. 5, 2010

We had a sleep over at Gains Elementary School for our fourth and fifth grade girls and their friends. They participated in lots of fun activities. the activities included a hula hoop and jacks competition, pig races, fingernails painting, sock hop and a runway fashion show. The girls also made small purses that they were able to take home with them. There were a lot of wonderful volunteers from the Fashion Design Student Association at UGA and from Alpha Phi Omega. We had a blast!

Jack Fruit (An African Fruit)

One of the advisers, Mrs. Bland, found a Jack Fruit at a Market in Atlanta, Ga. The Girls were then able to see, touch, smell and taste the sweet fruit that their pen pals from Africa talked about in their DVD that was sent to the club. The girls really enjoyed this experience.

2010 - 2011 Academic Year

We started the year by allowing the students to become familiar with their sewing machines. We then helped the girls make backpacks. They created backpacks for themselves and for their pen pals in Africa. Each student was assigned another girl from Uganda as a pen pal. They have also been making pillow cases for the homeless shelters.
